All about Coffee Paperback William Ukers 0884843639418 Books Reviews
It is a concise and informative book about coffee. It is for the beginner as well as the seasoned coffee maker.
Old information, hard to read, I do not recommend this book, in fact for the price it is a rip-off. I wasted my money expecting more current information from a 2009 copyright, not a cheap reprint of public domain info.
The title said 'All About Coffee', but the inside pages were a totally different book!
This book has provided a complete history of coffee up to the early 1900's. It reviews the origins and how coffee came to be grown in the various countrys spread thouhgout the world today. The countrys and/or areas are named as they were pre-world war 1.
The cover says All About Coffee, but inside is a Belgium cookbook. Wtf?
This has got to be one of the ultimate resources on the Coffee-Human Connection. While some of the information is dated and overly scholarly it traces the history of coffee, the art and literature of coffee and the science of this most popular beverage. The coffee industry has grown and changed since 1922, but as a comprehensive historical resource from that time is is valuable.
Much of this book contains dated information, two years post WWI, however there is a fascinating wealth of botanical and historical information about the spread of coffee agriculture from Africa to the rest of the world, and the political and social implications of the rise of the coffee house in Europe and the United States. It is remarkably detailed, and I enjoyed it very much.
Dated, but well written. Basically if the average coffee snob read this book, they would cease drinking any coffee from a big name company. And buy only fresh roast from a local supplier.......or roast their own
